Market Merchant Activator (Short-Term)

About the role

Q-Sourcing, a manpower management firm operating across East Africa, is recruiting Market Merchant Activators in Kenya on behalf of its client. The role is short-term (3 months) and performance-driven, focusing on onboarding, activating and recruiting new merchants onto a digital merchant ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, recruit and onboard new MSME merchants in assigned catchment areas, including driving onboarding of inactive existing customers and ensuring accurate KYC and merchant forms.
• Activate merchants so they make their first transaction within defined timelines, support payment processing and follow up to reduce dormancy.
• Carry out daily field visits according to approved work plans, train merchants and their staff on the platform and run structured customer engagements using approved scripts.
• Meet daily and weekly targets on activated merchants and new onboarding, and report visits, onboarding, activations and issues daily and weekly.
• Capture and submit KYC and activity data accurately, escalate customer issues and reputational concerns, and collect and record customer queries.
• Monitor merchant activity, re-engage dormant merchants, gather feedback and support retention and usage initiatives.
• Collect and manage assigned customer collateral and return unused collateral to designated officers.
• Adhere to the client's code of conduct and comply with KYC, data protection and brand standards.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree (business-related preferred but not mandatory).
• Early-career candidates with 1-2 years' experience; experience in sales, field marketing or agent networks is preferred.
• Familiarity with local trading environments such as markets and MSMEs in the assigned branch locations.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of digital payments, mobile money or Paybill systems (preferred but not mandatory).
• Strong sales, persuasion and customer engagement skills.
• Ability to plan and carry out structured field visits.
• Basic data capture and reporting, including simple Excel or apps.
