Merchandiser - Building Materials (Decorative Paints)

About the role

Career Directions Limited is hiring four Merchandisers for its Decorative Paints business in Nairobi. The Merchandiser is stationed at assigned dealer outlets for set periods, promoting the company's paints, engaging walk-in customers and building relationships with painters and contractors so that the dealer can grow its secondary sales.

Key responsibilities

• Be stationed at assigned dealer outlets on the agreed schedule and promote the company's decorative paints.
• Interact with walk-in customers, understand their needs and recommend suitable products.
• Make daily calls to painters and contractors in the assigned area and build strong relationships with them and other key influencers.
• Create and manage WhatsApp groups of painters and contractors, sharing product information, promotions and company communications.
• Visit nearby construction sites and projects regularly, generate leads and follow them up until they convert to business for the dealer.
• Support dealers in developing new customers and increasing repeat business, and conduct product presentations and demonstrations when needed.
• Ensure products are properly displayed and promoted at the outlet, and keep the dealer informed of customer, project and market feedback.
• Monitor competitor products, prices and promotions and report findings to the supervisor.
• Maintain accurate records of visits, contacts, site visits, leads and converted business, and prepare daily and weekly activity reports.

Required profile

• Diploma or certificate in Sales, Marketing, Business or a related field.
• 1-2 years of sales, merchandising or customer-facing experience, preferably in building materials, FMCG or a related industry.
• Good communication, interpersonal and selling skills; customer-focused and target-oriented.
• Willingness to visit sites and projects in the surrounding area.

Required skills

• Basic computer and mobile reporting skills.
• WhatsApp usage for group communication.
• Ability to work independently at dealer outlets and in the field.
