About the role

Mount Kenya University is seeking a qualified trainer to deliver marine safety courses on a part‑time basis. The role involves designing, delivering and assessing classroom and practical sessions for maritime students and professionals, ensuring compliance with international standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver STCW‑based safety courses such as Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, and First Aid.
  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification and emergency preparedness training.
  • Implement and teach Safety Management Systems (SMS) and ISM Code compliance.
  • Facilitate both theoretical and hands‑on training using modern instructional techniques.
  • Evaluate trainee performance, provide feedback and maintain training records.
  • Update course materials in line with regulatory changes and support safety audits and inspections.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Certified trainer with recognized maritime safety qualifications (e.g., STCW, IMO Model Courses).
  • Minimum 2‑3 years of sea service and prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body is an advantage.
