Part-Time Trainer in Marine Safety

About the role
Mount Kenya University is seeking a qualified trainer to deliver marine safety courses on a part‑time basis. The role involves designing, delivering and assessing classroom and practical sessions for maritime students and professionals, ensuring compliance with international standards.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver STCW‑based safety courses such as Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, and First Aid.
- Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification and emergency preparedness training.
- Implement and teach Safety Management Systems (SMS) and ISM Code compliance.
- Facilitate both theoretical and hands‑on training using modern instructional techniques.
- Evaluate trainee performance, provide feedback and maintain training records.
- Update course materials in line with regulatory changes and support safety audits and inspections.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Certified trainer with recognized maritime safety qualifications (e.g., STCW, IMO Model Courses).
- Minimum 2‑3 years of sea service and prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution.
- Membership in a relevant professional body is an advantage.
