About the role
Mount Kenya University seeks a qualified trainer to deliver maritime transport and logistics courses to its cadet cohort. The role combines classroom instruction with hands‑on simulation training, ensuring students meet IMO STCW standards and are ready for certification exams.
Key responsibilities
- Teach courses in navigation, ship stability, meteorology, cargo handling, and maritime law.
- Deliver practical training using bridge simulators, chart work, and voyage‑planning exercises.
- Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with international maritime standards.
- Mentor cadets in academic and professional development and provide feedback on performance.
- Support students in preparation for certification exams and onboard training.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of the nautical science programme.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and assessments.
- Collaborate with other trainers, academic staff, and industry partners.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Transport and Logistics or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 2‑3 years of sea service and prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Membership in a relevant professional body in good standing is an advantage.
