Plant Maintenance Engineer – Kenya/Rwanda

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Plant & Mechanical Engineer to lead maintenance of mechanical, electrical and refrigeration assets across our food‑processing facilities in Kenya and Rwanda. The role combines hands‑on problem solving, preventive maintenance planning and team leadership to ensure high plant uptime and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Lead maintenance of mechanical and electrical plant equipment, including diesel generators and HVAC systems.
• Manage industrial refrigeration, blast freezers, cold rooms, conveyors, dryers and ventilation systems.
• Plan and execute preventive and planned maintenance schedules.
• Supervise technicians, contractors and external service providers.
• Oversee equipment installation, testing, commissioning and hand‑over.
• Control spare‑parts inventory, tools, maintenance costs and contractor performance.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures, record downtime and drive corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health, food safety and environmental standards.
• Drive continuous improvement in plant uptime, maintenance cost and safety performance.

Required profile

• Degree or Higher Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 7–15 years of experience in plant, processing or facility maintenance.
• Strong background in industrial refrigeration and cold‑chain operations.
• Experience with blast freezers, cold rooms, conveyors, dryers and ventilation systems.
• Knowledge of diesel generators, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulics and plumbing.
• Proven ability to plan preventive maintenance and manage technicians/contractors.
• HVAC/Refrigeration certification is a plus.
• Experience in food processing, feed milling, poultry or related industries preferred.
