Procurement Officer – Busia

About the role

The Procurement Officer will ensure timely, cost‑effective, and compliant acquisition of goods, services, and medical supplies essential for uninterrupted patient care at the hospital. This role supports quality standards while building reliable supplier relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement procurement plans in coordination with departmental heads.
• Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and quality.
• Prepare and issue purchase orders according to approved budgets and policies.
• Maintain an updated, pre‑qualified supplier database.
• Ensure proper documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
• Monitor supplier performance and delivery timelines.
• Coordinate with finance for invoice verification and payment processing.
• Conduct market surveys and benchmarking to achieve value for money.
• Manage inventory levels with stores to avoid stock‑outs or overstocking.
• Participate in tendering processes and evaluation committees.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within procurement.

Required profile

• Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field.
• Membership with the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
• High integrity and understanding of procurement ethics.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Experience with procurement systems.
