Programme Protection Advisor - Better Migration Management

About the role

GIZ Kenya is recruiting a Programme Protection Advisor for the Better Migration Management (BMM) Programme IV, based in Nairobi. The project aims to make migration in the Horn of Africa safer and more orderly, strengthen action against human trafficking and improve protection services and economic prospects for migrants and victims. The project is coordinated by GIZ together with CIVIPOL, IOM and UNODC, and covers training for police and human rights officers and strengthening civil society organisations providing protection and support.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, implement and monitor project activities and document training events, workshops, forums and meetings in line with GIZ standards
• Support budget preparation and monitoring and documentation of expenses
• Contribute knowledge, ideas, feedback and lessons learned to the programme team and advise partners proactively
• Maintain communication and information flows among partners and GIZ, and act as focal point when required
• Travel within Kenya and Somalia, including Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa

Required profile

• Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant discipline such as social or political sciences, law, international relations, project management or similar
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in project management and stakeholder engagement or events management
• Fluency in English and Somali or Swahili; additional regional languages are an asset
• Previous experience in migration, refugee or protection settings is an advantage
• Interest in international development cooperation and/or international relations

Required skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Sound working knowledge of MS Office and online meeting applications
• Inquisitive, problem-solving attitude and willingness to learn
