Research Assistant – Isiolo

About the role

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is seeking a Research Assistant to support field research activities in Isiolo. The role involves participant recruitment, data collection, and preparation of field reports while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with study protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear study information to potential participants, screen eligibility, and obtain informed consent.
• Administer questionnaires, psychological assessments, and collect data using secure electronic devices.
• Conduct qualitative interviews, including focus‑group discussions and in‑depth interviews.
• Maintain accurate participant records, study documentation, and ensure secure storage of confidential information.
• Prepare periodic field reports (monthly and semi‑annual) and support monitoring, quality assurance, and compliance activities.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Statistics or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection.
• Experience working with mental health or vulnerable populations is an advantage.
• Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or Human Subjects Protection (HSP) is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with REDCap electronic data capture system.
• Competent use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using digital devices for electronic data collection.
