Senior Data Engineer - GCP & Big Data

About the role

Accelera Digital Group is looking for an experienced, energetic and highly motivated Data Engineer to join its Data and AI practice within the Data Engineering Team in Nairobi. The role sits in a team of Data and AI practitioners delivering technical solutions to customers and internal operations, and calls for deep expertise in GCP data stacks and open-source big data ecosystems.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and build robust, scalable batch and real-time streaming pipelines
• Lead project delivery from concept to production, managing complex technical timelines and quality
• Translate complex technical architectures into business value and take initiative to improve services and systems
• Mentor junior engineers, guide technical discussions, lead Proof of Concept (POC) development and help grow the Data practice

Required profile

• At least 7 years of proven experience in data engineering, data architecture and enterprise software systems
• Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience
• Deep understanding of cloud-native data ecosystems, open-source big data specifications and distributed computing
• Strong foundation in traditional data engineering and modern Generative AI (GenAI) technologies

Required skills

• Google Cloud Platform data services: BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Cloud Dataproc, Cloud Composer and Dataplex
• Apache Spark, Hadoop, Python and SQL
• Data lakehouse and enterprise data architecture concepts
