Senior General Ledger Accountant (Hotel) – Diani

About the role

A luxury leisure lodge in Diani, Kenya, is looking for an experienced Senior General Ledger Accountant to join its finance team. The successful candidate will support the Financial Controller in making sure all ledger accounts, as shown in the trial balance, are reconciled and show accurate balances.

Key responsibilities

• Keep general ledger transactions accurate and up to date, including monthly trial balance reconciliations in line with the Chart of Accounts and USALI standards.
• Review, post and approve journal entries from the finance team, ensuring they are properly supported and authorised.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet, and address variances against budget.
• Ensure monthly balance sheet reconciliations are ready by the 3rd of each month and follow up on outstanding items.
• Manage prepayments, accruals and ledger updates, incorporating finance review feedback and answering queries.
• Oversee tax compliance, including filing tax returns and other statutory payments.
• Maintain the fixed asset register, including capitalisation of assets from work-in-progress, monitoring and disposal.
• Support annual budgeting, internal and external audits, document filing and archiving, and take part in finance department performance reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related field; a master's degree and a CPA professional qualification are required.
• Proven experience of typically 3+ years in financial management, preferably in the hospitality or hotel industry.
• High level of accuracy, transparency and financial accountability.
