Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Tatu City, a mixed‑use special economic zone near Nairobi, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical systems across large‑scale building projects. The role combines technical leadership, hands‑on site support, and mentorship of junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the complete design of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire‑protection systems for high‑rise, commercial and industrial projects.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations, including heating and cooling load analysis, energy modelling and hydraulic simulations.
• Prepare and approve technical design documentation such as drawings, schematics, equipment specifications and performance criteria.
• Conduct value‑engineering studies to optimise energy efficiency, cost and sustainability.
• Act as the primary technical authority during construction, responding to RFIs, reviewing contractor submittals and resolving installation challenges.
• Conduct regular site inspections, witness equipment testing and ensure compliance with design intent and relevant codes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in mechanical system design for complex building projects.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
• Hands‑on leadership style with strong problem‑solving capabilities on site.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of industry standards and codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC).
