Senior Security Officer

About the role

The Senior Security Officer provides senior coordination and advisory support to UNOPS, ensuring that personnel, assets and programmes are protected through robust risk management, proactive planning and effective collaboration with UNDSS, host‑government authorities and other partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide security advice and support to management and staff across the assigned Area of Responsibility (AoR).
• Conduct, update and maintain Security Risk Assessments (SRAs) for offices, project sites and travel routes.
• Develop and sustain local security management arrangements aligned with UNSMS standards.
• Integrate safety and security components into project proposals and budgets.
• Review and update Security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with SRM, RSM and other mandatory frameworks.
• Maintain continuous situational awareness of security developments and deliver timely analysis to support operational decisions.
• Coordinate effectively with UNDSS, host‑government authorities, UN agencies and other stakeholders to ensure coherent implementation of security measures.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in security risk management within international or UN environments.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and operate independently.
• Strong understanding of UNSMS standards and security coordination mechanisms.
• Proven experience in developing security SOPs and integrating security considerations into project design.
