Senior Travel Designer

About the role

The Senior Travel Designer will act as the primary liaison between Wilderness and its sales agents, delivering fast, accurate quotations and managing bookings from initial request through to confirmation. The role demands strong relationship‑building, deep product knowledge of Southern and East African destinations, and the ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and nurture relationships with sales agents, attending familiarisation trips when required.
• Generate sales by costing, quoting, and presenting journeys promptly.
• Manage the full booking cycle on the Wilderness platform (WW), ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timely confirmation.
• Upsell preferred suppliers and specials, maximizing yield and gross profit per booking.
• Coordinate with reservations managers, supplier reservation teams, and internal integration specialists to resolve issues.
• Monitor provisional bookings, handle changes efficiently, and ensure all documentation is uploaded.
• Flag special‑needs or high‑risk guests to incident‑management teams and follow safety protocols.
• Stay updated on regional logistics, industry trends, and Wilderness product offerings.

Required profile

• Minimum tertiary certificate in Travel & Tourism or Hospitality.
• 4‑5 years senior experience handling customer relationships and building itineraries in the inbound travel market.
• In‑depth knowledge of Southern and East African destinations, with added advantage for Mozambique, Mauritius, and Seychelles.
• Strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word).
• Working knowledge of TourPlan and WETU or similar booking/operating systems.
