Supermarket Deli Chef

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time Supermarket Deli Chef for its retail/supermarket business. The role covers preparing meals, snacks and ready-to-eat foods, keeping food safe and hygienic, managing kitchen stock and supporting customers and colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare a variety of meals, snacks and ready-to-eat foods to recipe and quality standards, cooking, seasoning, portioning and presenting them attractively.
• Maintain personal hygiene, kitchen cleanliness and food handling standards, including proper storage, labelling, temperature control and cleaning of equipment and work areas.
• Monitor ingredients and supplies, report shortages, rotate stock using FIFO and minimise waste through good portion control and planning.
• Check ingredients and finished products for quality and freshness, reporting damaged or expired items to the supervisor.
• Answer customer questions about deli products, coordinate with colleagues and supermarket staff and follow work schedules and deadlines.

Required profile

• At least one year of experience as a chef or cook in a busy kitchen, restaurant, hotel, catering establishment or supermarket deli.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare a variety of cuisines and keep food quality consistent.
• Certificate or training in Food Production, Culinary Arts, Catering or a related field is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene, sanitation and safe food storage.
• Excellent time management, organisation and multitasking skills.
