About the role

The Supervisory Wage and Hour Specialist leads a major program segment within the Wage and Hour Division, overseeing policy development, enforcement initiatives, and a large staff of professionals. This senior GS‑15 position requires strategic planning, legal expertise, and strong leadership to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and related regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Directs a major program segment, ensuring work quality and efficient use of significant resources.
• Resolves complex employee grievances, makes staffing selections, and approves disciplinary actions for subordinates.
• Evaluates and approves non‑routine training needs, overtime, travel, and other expense requests.
• Identifies major program problems, develops recommendations, and implements corrective actions.
• Participates in the creation of strategic and operational plans for enforcement initiatives.
• Develops, updates, and issues policies, procedures, fact sheets, and guidance materials.
• Represents the division in high‑level conferences with labor, management, and government officials on FLSA/Child Labor issues.
• Advises senior leadership on policy matters and legislative proposals affecting wage and hour programs.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and minimum age of 16.
• Ability to obtain required security clearance and pass background investigation.
• Willingness to serve a probationary period if required.
• Subject to financial disclosure requirements.
• Extensive experience in wage‑hour law, policy development, and program management.
