Trade Fellow – Support Kenya Trade Policy

About the role
The State Department for Trade (SDT) in Kenya, in partnership with ODI Global, seeks a Trade Fellow to strengthen trade policy analysis and support the policy‑making process. The Fellow will work directly within the SDT, contributing to the development of Kenya’s trade strategy.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative research on trade issues to inform policy decisions.
- Analyse trade data relevant to Kenya’s trade policy.
- Prepare briefing notes on trade topics and present findings to SDT staff.
- Participate in internal and external SDT meetings and represent the department when required.
- Collaborate with ODI Global’s International Economic Development Group in London.
- Engage with Kenyan government counterparts, regional bodies, and international organisations on trade matters.
- Assist in planning and delivering SDT events and meetings.
- Report periodically to ODI on programme activities.
Required profile
- University Master’s degree in economics or a related field (or a Bachelor’s with 15 years relevant experience).
- Minimum five years of experience in trade or economic policy within government, international organisations, or academia.
- Working knowledge of English.
- Willingness to serve a one‑year fixed‑term assignment in Nairobi, with possible extension.
