Accountant – General Ledger & Tax Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a meticulous Accountant to join a leading East African lighting and energy solutions provider. The role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely statutory filings, and supporting the finance team in a fast‑moving trading environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the chart of accounts and execute month‑end closing, including accruals and pre‑payments.
• Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns via eTIMS, as well as PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, and Housing Levy filings.
• Reconcile physical inventory with the ERP system and calculate landed costs for imported goods.
• Manage the full invoicing cycle, chase overdue customer balances, and verify supplier invoices against delivery notes and LPOs.
• Perform daily/weekly bank reconciliations, including M‑PayPay settlements and multi‑currency (USD/KES) accounts.
• Update the fixed‑asset register and apply correct depreciation rates per KRA wear‑and‑tear schedules.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• 3‑5 years of experience in a busy trading or distribution setting.
• CPA‑K certification or membership of ICPAK.
• Knowledge of import procedures and a certificate of good conduct.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work independently within a structured finance team.

• ERP proficiency – SAP Business One, QuickBooks or Sage
