Business Development Senior Manager – Africa Sub‑Region

About the role

Maersk Line is seeking a senior leader to drive business development across the Africa sub‑region. The role will support the Chief Commercial Officer in executing the global sales strategy, expanding market presence and building a high‑performing regional team.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and assist the Chief Commercial Officer on local market implementation of the global sales strategy.
• Develop and execute the Sub‑Regional Business Development Strategy in alignment with senior leadership.
• Identify high‑growth markets, industries and customer segments and create market‑penetration plans for priority countries and corridors.
• Drive expansion of maritime, logistics, inland transportation and value‑added services.
• Build, qualify and manage a sub‑regional pipeline of strategic opportunities, leading bids, proposals and negotiations.
• Secure regional and multinational customer contracts within the delegation‑of‑authority framework.
• Track conversion rates, sales cycles, revenue delivery and profitability of secured opportunities.
• Promote intra‑Africa market share by targeting key trade lanes, customers and high‑potential business opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Marketing, Economics, Logistics, Supply Chain or related field; MBA or Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a regional or multi‑country sales or senior management role.
• Experience in shipping, logistics, transportation, supply chain or multinational environments is preferred.
• Strong understanding of macro‑economic and industry trends in the African market.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of a local language is advantageous.
• Proven leadership and team‑building abilities with a hands‑on mentality.
• High analytical and organizational capability, personal integrity and a team‑player mindset.
• Willingness to travel across the region.
