About the role
The Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF) is seeking an Investment Associate to join its impact‑investment team in Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, or Nairobi. Reporting to the Managing Director of Investments, the associate will work closely with investment principals and strategy/impact teams to source, develop, and conduct diligence on new opportunities while supporting active portfolio management. The role is hybrid, with roughly 50% of time spent in the office.
Key responsibilities
- Support the development of investment themes and strategies across sectors and geographies.
- Lead landscaping and benchmarking exercises to identify new opportunities aligned with SEDF’s impact goals.
- Manage investment processes, ensuring accurate cataloguing of deals and preparation of investment memos.
- Conduct due diligence, including financial modeling, risk analysis, ESG assessment, and valuation.
- Assist Investment Principals and the Managing Director in executing diligence work‑plans.
- Forge strategic partnerships with impact investors, family offices, MDBs/DFIs, and consultants.
- Oversee asset‑management activities to add value to SEDF investees.
Required profile
- 5–7 years of experience in private‑sector banking or investment, preferably with emerging‑market exposure.
- Proven track record of leading and closing equity and debt transactions, including through intermediaries.
- Strong ability to source, screen, and evaluate opportunities against an impact strategy.
- Commitment to Open Society values such as humility, collaboration, inclusivity, and integrity.
- Excellent spoken and written English; additional languages are a plus.
