Sales Manager – Steel Trading (Nairobi)

About the role

Our client, an international manufacturing & trading company, is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to drive the sale of steel products across Kenya and neighbouring African markets. The ideal candidate should have strong B2B sales experience, knowledge of steel or industrial products, and the ability to manage customer relationships and the full sales process from quotation to delivery and payment collection.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new business opportunities and expand steel sales across Kenya and neighbouring African countries.
• Build and maintain relationships with steel manufacturers, fabricators, distributors and industrial customers.
• Manage the full sales cycle: quotations, order confirmation, shipment coordination, payment collection and after‑sales support.
• Conduct market research to identify potential customers, emerging opportunities and new markets.
• Coordinate with overseas suppliers and internal teams on pricing, customer requirements and shipment schedules.
• Monitor steel prices, competitor activity and market trends to support informed sales decisions.
• Support import and export processes, logistics coordination and commercial documentation for international steel trading.
• Negotiate prices, payment terms and supply agreements with customers.
• Achieve agreed sales targets and contribute to the company’s revenue growth.
• Prepare regular sales reports, market updates and customer activity reports for management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• Five to seven years of B2B sales or business development experience.
• Experience in steel trading, steel manufacturing, building materials, industrial products, commodity trading, or import and export is preferred.
• Strong customer‑development, negotiation and account‑management abilities.
• Willingness to travel regularly within Kenya and neighbouring countries.
