Senior Accountant – Tax & Financial Reporting

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to lead tax compliance, financial reporting and supplier accounting for our shipping and logistics operations in Nairobi. The role involves ensuring accurate tax filings, timely month‑end close and providing guidance to the accounting team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review VAT, PAYE and Withholding Tax returns and respond to tax authority queries.
• Review supplier vouchers, ensure proper coding, documentation (LPOs, delivery notes) and invoice approvals.
• Manage standing charges, match prepaid and accrued expenses, and propose cost‑monitoring improvements.
• Produce monthly account explanations for classes 1‑4 & 6‑8 and ensure accurate provisions.
• Control supplier payments, perform reconciliations, validate remittances in IRIS and monitor outstanding balances.
• Lead end‑month closing, act as first reviewer of the general ledger and compile reporting packages for management.
• Settle intercompany balances, reconcile accounts before payment and support the Financial Controller as needed.
• Provide leadership to the accounting team, promote best practices and support internal control initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce or a related business field.
• CPA(K) qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• At least 3 years of experience within freight forwarding or logistics.

Required skills

• Proficiency with IRIS accounting software.
