About the role
HIAS is seeking a Temporary Literacy Teacher to provide basic English literacy education to refugees residing in a Safe House in Nairobi on a three‑month contract, renewable subject to funding and performance.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver basic English reading and writing instruction to adult refugees using a jointly developed curriculum.
- Assess new arrivals to place them in appropriate classes and monitor learners’ progress.
- Prepare periodic progress reports and attend staff meetings.
- Support capacity‑building activities such as workshops and trainings in coordination with other departments.
Required profile
- Diploma in Education with a background in English and Literature.
- Experience in community‑based adult training and basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Knowledge of human rights, Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is an advantage.
