About the role
As the Venture Finance Officer for Venture Kenya, you will ensure that every fund movement – incoming, outgoing, and internal – is recorded accurately, protected, and traceable. You will oversee a small team handling receipts, disbursements, and record‑keeping while providing real‑time visibility of transactions for auditors and senior management.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure all incoming funds are correctly recorded and protected on the day they are received.
- Review and approve payment requests against approved budgets, confirming invoices and supporting documentation.
- Oversee income & receipts, disbursements & payments, and financial reporting functions to keep transactions accurate and traceable.
- Maintain complete, audit‑ready financial records with zero missing invoices or unreconciled transactions.
- Compile and submit monthly financial reports to the Country Director and Holding Finance on time.
- Flag and resolve missing documentation or financial discrepancies before month‑end close.
- Escalate any payment requests above approved thresholds or signs of financial irregularity promptly.
- Respond to financial queries from division heads, auditors, and Holding Finance as they arise.
Required profile
- A degree or professional qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Solid experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting, preferably within an operational, field‑based, or nonprofit/social‑impact organization in Kenya or East Africa.
- Strong eye for detail and comfort working with budgets, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Judgment to approve, hold, or escalate payments confidently.
- Clear communication skills to explain financial status to non‑finance colleagues.
- Integrity and discretion given the sensitivity of financial data and audit trails for carbon credit certification.
- Familiarity with Kenyan financial regulations, tax requirements, and banking practices.
- Comfort working within a structured reporting line while exercising independent judgment day‑to‑day.
