Manager, Core Systems

About the role

SBM Bank is hiring a Manager, Core Systems in its Westlands office in Nairobi. The role covers the management, support and improvement of the bank's business applications, including core banking and payments systems, and works closely with business units, IT teams and vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure 24/7 availability and optimal performance of business applications, including core banking and payments systems, in line with IT policies and the bank's objectives
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, coordinate with vendors and internal teams, and manage patch updates and version upgrades
• Identify opportunities to improve applications and user experience, implement enhancements based on business and regulatory needs, and tune performance and automate manual processes
• Ensure applications follow security best practices, take part in IT risk assessments and security audits, and help with regulatory and audit compliance
• Support integration of banking applications with other enterprise systems, root cause analysis, and development and testing of new features, APIs and interfaces
• Manage project lifecycles with business units, IT teams and vendors, gather business requirements and oversee project delivery

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
• At least five years of experience managing business applications, preferably in banking or financial services

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of banking systems, middleware and digital banking applications
• Proficiency in SQL, Oracle database management, APIs and system integrations
• Hands-on experience with Oracle FLEXCUBE banking applications and payments and money transfer applications
• Experience with IT service management frameworks such as ITIL is an advantage
