Data Platform Engineer (Mid-Level)
Jobgether
Job description
About the role
A partner company is recruiting a Data Platform Engineer (mid-level) based in Kenya. The role helps turn an established data and machine learning platform into a scalable, self-service environment that lets engineering teams work independently. You will build and improve deployment pipelines, infrastructure-as-code modules and reusable tooling, working across data engineering, backend development and infrastructure to support a global shipping and fulfillment platform.
Key responsibilities
- Analyze and improve CI/CD pipelines, adapting workflows to support reliable, repeatable software delivery.
- Extend and maintain infrastructure-as-code modules following existing repository patterns.
- Apply data governance standards such as naming conventions, access controls and retention policies.
- Build a reusable template repository with preconfigured CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code and governance standards.
- Create reusable modules that simplify pipeline creation and reduce repetitive work.
- Write documentation, runbooks and troubleshooting guides.
- Design and manage data access-request processes and take ownership of the template repository and infrastructure modules.
- Collaborate with data engineers, backend engineers and infrastructure specialists, and use AI-assisted development tools responsibly.
Required profile
- Approximately two years or more of professional experience in software, data, platform, DevOps or infrastructure engineering.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience owning a deployment path end to end, including troubleshooting and documenting solutions in runbooks.
- Willingness to work across data engineering, backend systems and infrastructure; prior experience with every technology or the business domain is not required.
Required skills
- Python and SQL, used regularly in professional engineering tasks.
- CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code, with the ability to understand and improve existing implementations.
- Code analysis and troubleshooting in unfamiliar codebases.
- Docker and familiarity with cloud concepts, particularly AWS; SageMaker is not required.
- Comfort with AI coding assistants such as Copilot, Claude or Cursor.
What we offer
- Annual compensation of EUR 33,000 to 43,000.
- Remote work from anywhere worldwide, with company-funded trips to headquarters.
- Meal vouchers, mental health and fitness support, and an annual learning budget.
- Home office allowance, flexible working with no clock-in/out, and an extra day off for your birthday.
- Career growth program with clear development pathways.
