Head of Product Control & Accounting

About the role

The Head of Product Control & Accounting sits between Finance and the Product & Technology teams, ensuring every new product, feature, or pricing change is designed correctly from an accounting and control perspective before it ships. You will own the end‑to‑end flow from the customer journey to the Group's financial statements.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the technical accounting partner to Product and Engineering for all new initiatives.
• Write technical accounting memos and position papers (e.g., revenue recognition under IFRS 15, financial instrument classification under IFRS 9).
• Design, build, and maintain the chart of accounts for new and existing products.
• Map each stage of the customer journey to the correct GL treatment.
• Review product and engineering specs pre‑launch to flag accounting and control gaps.
• Own reconciliation between product/transaction system data and the general ledger and resolve breaks.
• Design and document controls around new product flows (maker‑checker, reconciliation, exception handling).
• Maintain a living library of accounting treatment documentation per product.
• Partner with Financial Control, Internal Audit, and external auditors on product‑related queries.

Required profile

• ACA / ACCA (or equivalent) with 8+ years post‑qualification experience, including Big 4 technical accounting or audit background.
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS 15, IFRS 9 and IFRS more broadly.
• Experience translating product or system design into accounting treatment and GL structure.
• Comfortable reading product specs and communicating directly with engineers and product managers.
• Preferred: experience in payments, fintech or banking; designing or restructuring a chart of accounts for a multi‑product platform; exposure to regulatory reporting requirements (CBN, FCA, CBK); experience in an agile product/engineering environment.
