Senior Design Engineer – Substation Design for Renewable Plants

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to lead substation design for renewable energy plants. Based in Nairobi and reporting to a Senior Manager in India, you will deliver high‑quality engineering solutions across multiple renewable projects.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate internal and external project activities from inception to completion.
• Perform detailed designs of switchyards, medium‑voltage (MV) and high‑voltage (HV) systems, including EHV concepts.
• Prepare and review switchyard layouts, erection diagrams, clearance checks, and AIS drawings up to 220 kV.
• Apply GIS substation knowledge where required.
• Design MV panels, SAS systems, earthing, illumination, and lightning‑protection schemes.
• Size transmission line conductors, conduct short‑circuit force calculations, and size HV/LV power and control cables.
• Develop technical specifications, procurement documents, and quality action plans.
• Select metering equipment, IEDs, and draft interlocking logic diagrams.
• Ensure compliance with the company’s Integrated Management System and ISO operational standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 4–8 years of progressive, hands‑on experience in substation design and engineering.
• Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Capability to work independently and deliver results in a multinational environment.
