Senior Officer, Cyber Secure by Design

About the role
The Senior Officer, Cyber Secure by Design will embed security controls into Safaricom’s products, platforms and services before they go live. Reporting to the Senior Manager, the role supports the security assurance programme and provides rapid security advice and reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct periodic security reviews, vulnerability assessments and penetration tests across all systems and infrastructure.
- Ensure new and existing solutions comply with company policies, ISO 27001, CIS standards and the Kenya Data Protection Act.
- Manage the bug bounty programme, drive remediation of findings and integrate lessons learned.
- Lead red‑team exercises, scope, review findings and track remediation while fostering purple‑team collaboration.
- Govern DevSecOps tooling, ensure CI/CD pipelines embed security tools and deliver developer training on secure coding.
Required profile
- Degree in Information Security, Computer Science, IT or related technical field.
- Minimum 3 years experience in information systems security, ethical hacking, penetration testing and vulnerability assessment.
- Hands‑on experience with networking, operating systems and web/mobile application technologies.
- Proven ability to work in agile squads, drive security automation and communicate findings to business stakeholders.
Required skills
- Security certifications such as CEH, CISSP, CISM, CISA, GIAC, CPTP, OSCP.
- Networking certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CCSP.
- Proficiency with Kali Linux, Metasploit, Nexpose, Nessus, Nmap, Burp Suite.
- Programming/web skills: Java, Python, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Apache, Nginx, IIS.
- Database knowledge: Oracle, MSSQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL.
- Virtualisation and container platforms: VMware, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker.
- DevSecOps tools: Jenkins, Jira, GitHub, GitLab.
- Mobile and GSM knowledge: Android, iOS, 2G/3G/LTE, USSD.
